SafeStick does not ask me to register to SafeConsole?
SafeStick does not ask me to register to SafeConsole?
Solution
If you are in a position where your unregistered SafeStick does not prompt you to register it against the SafeConsole, even though it looks like the correct certificate is in place and the registry key is is place you can work out what is going wrong by:
1.) Insert the SafeStick, waiting for it to prompt you to create a password (no prompt to register) and press CTRL+ALT+F6 to create a logging file.
2.) Wait for the process to compete again, then press CTRL+ALT+F4 to close and exit SafeStick.exe
3.) Open the SafeStick logging file that has appeared in Notepad
4.) Scroll down and look for:
1.02: 4788:getRemoteCertificate : 64: GetLastError() returned 2F8F
1.02: 4788:sessionEventPropagateToModules: 104: console signalled event READY
1.02: 4788:sessionEventPropagateToModules: 95: Event console_command propagated
1.02: 4788:onConsoleCommandEvent : 582: Device not managed
The "getRemoteCertificate : 64: GetLastError() returned 2F8F" is indicative of the certificate installed on the SafeConsole configuration wizard, the SafeConsole "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" store and the desktop(s) "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" not matching.
Most likely either the SafeConsole server has had a new certificate created in the wizard causing the mis-match or the wrong certificate has been pushed down to the desktop(s) using Group Policy.
In either case, the problem is a certificate mis-match. (albeit with the same hostname/fqdn)
Just to be sure however, make sure that if your desktops are using proxy settings to access the internet create an exception for the SafeConsole server so that those connections between the SafeSticks and the SafeConsole are "direct".
